How to Make YouTube Louder

The YouTube player caps at 100% of the source level, so a quiet upload stays quiet no matter what you do inside the player. Getting past that requires amplifying after the player output — which tab capture in Chrome or Edge makes possible without any extension.

Boost a YouTube tab

  1. Open the video in another tab and play it

    Capture only picks up audio that is actively playing.

  2. Press Capture tab audio below

    Your browser opens its own picker. Choose the Chrome Tab option and select the YouTube tab.

  3. Tick the share audio option

    The checkbox at the bottom left of the picker. This is the step people miss, and without it you capture video with no sound.

  4. Raise the gain

    The captured audio runs through the same limiter as a file, so pushing hard compresses rather than clips.

Why is the YouTube player capped at 100%?

The slider attenuates the source rather than amplifying it. Going above 100% would require gain that risks clipping, so the player does not offer it.

Do I need an extension?
