Chrome Volume Booster

Chrome is the only mainstream browser family — along with Edge, which shares its engine — that lets a web page capture and process audio from another tab. That means you can boost a YouTube or Twitch tab from this page, with no extension and no install, using the tab capture control in the console below.

Processed on your device — nothing is uploaded. Loud audio can damage hearing: lower your system volume before boosting, then raise it gradually.

Boosting audio from another tab

Chrome desktop only. The browser will draw its own picker — this page cannot choose for you.

  1. Start playing audio in the other tab

    Open your video or stream in a separate tab and begin playback. Capture only picks up audio that is actually playing.

  2. Press Capture tab audio

    Chrome opens a sharing dialog. Choose the Chrome Tab option, select your tab from the list, and — this is the part people miss — tick Also share tab audio at the bottom left before confirming.

  3. Raise the gain

    The captured stream now runs through the same chain as a file. Chrome mutes the original tab's direct output while sharing, so you hear only the boosted version.

  4. Stop when finished

    Press Stop capture here, or use Chrome's own sharing banner. Audio returns to normal immediately.

Fix Chrome being quieter than other apps

Per-app volume
On Windows, Chrome has its own level in the Volume Mixer that persists between sessions. See Windows volume booster.
A muted tab
Right-click any tab to check whether Mute site is enabled. Chrome remembers this per site.
Site-level sound permission
The padlock icon in the address bar exposes a Sound permission that can be blocked for a specific site.
Hardware acceleration
Rarely, disabling it in Settings › System resolves audio processing glitches on older graphics drivers.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a Chrome extension to boost volume?

No. Tab capture through the standard screen-sharing API achieves the same result without installing anything or granting an extension persistent access to your browsing.

Why is my captured tab silent?

Either the Also share tab audio box was not ticked, or the content is DRM-protected. Try a YouTube video to confirm capture is working before concluding something is broken.

Does this work in Chrome on Android?

No. Tab and screen capture with audio is a desktop-only capability. File boosting works fine on Chrome for Android.
