Safari Volume Booster

Safari supports the Web Audio API, so boosting a file you load works normally. It does not support capturing audio from another tab, and macOS provides no system-wide boost either — which makes Safari the most constrained of the major browsers for this task.

Safari and macOS settings to check

Per-site settings
Safari › Settings for This Website, or Settings › Websites, includes auto-play controls that can prevent audio starting.
Reduce loud sounds
System Settings › Sound. A limiter that caps output regardless of the slider. Covered on the Mac volume booster page.
Output device
Audio may be routed to a display, AirPlay target or Bluetooth device. Option-click the volume icon in the menu bar to switch quickly.
AirPods on iOS-style limits
Connected AirPods carry their own volume state that does not always match the Mac slider.

Frequently asked questions

Are there Safari volume booster extensions?

Safari's extension model is more restrictive than Chrome's, and audio-processing extensions are correspondingly rare. Most macOS solutions instead install a virtual audio device at system level, which requires elevated permissions.

Why is Safari quieter than the Music app?

Usually the source material rather than the browser. Streaming web players often apply their own normalization, and web video is frequently mixed quieter than commercially mastered music.
