Why one track is quieter than the rest

Loudness varies enormously across recordings. A 1970s album mastered with plenty of dynamic range will measure far quieter than a modern release mastered to be competitive on radio, even though both peak at the same maximum. Neither is defective — they were made under different conventions.

Streaming services largely solved this with playback normalization, which turns loud tracks down to a common target. If your library sounds inconsistent, check whether normalization is switched on in your player before reaching for a boost. The Spotify page covers where that setting lives.

Frequently asked questions

Will this work with Spotify or Apple Music?

Not directly. Those apps and their DRM-protected web players do not expose audio to browser tools. This works on music files you own and load into it. For streaming, adjust the app's own equalizer and normalization settings.

What is the difference from the bass booster?

The bass booster only touches the low end. This adjusts both ends and uses a limiter tuned to preserve rhythmic transients.
